Brian Eno
General Eno 1 | General Eno 2 | General Eno 3 | Ambient

Brian relaxingThe first complete Eno album I heard was -On Land- (1982) which I recorded from a friends LP in the sound booth of the college auditorium. We cranked up the sound system and sat in the middle of the empty auditorium and let the sound envelop us.

Brian's music has always been music which fills you with the space to think your own thoughts. Ambient music allows the listener to either concentrate on the detail of the music or ignore it completely. It is like an aural guided imagery session where each listening will take you in a different direction. This is especially true of the work he did with SSEYO Koan, a piece of software which allows the composed to program rules, but which will play differently each time it is played. On the liner notes for "Discreet Music" he talks of setting up systems which follow rules, which are then set in motion to create music. "That is to say, I tend towards the roles of the planner and programmer, and then become an audience to the results" and much of the recording of this and other peices seem to have occured at times when Eno was also doing other things.
